The annual flagship activity of the IMSP, Annual Monsoon Workshop was organised on 18th March 2024 at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. The different aspects of southwest and northeast monsoon seasons of 2023 including different climatic features and forecasts in the subseasonal to seasonal scale were discussed in the workshop. The workshop was followed by a National Symposium on Understanding the science of heatwaves under the warming scenario and challenges ahead on 19th March 2024, which had invited lectures by field experts and contributory participations in the form of oral and poster presentations.

The annual flagship activity of the IMSP, Annual Monsoon Workshop (AMW) was organised on 28th March 2023 at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. The behaviour and unique features of the southwest & northeast monsoon seasons of 2022, along with predictions on different time-scales and their validations were presented during the AMW-2022. The workshop was followed by a National Symposium on Challenges in climate services for health sector in the warming environment on 29th & 30th March 2023, with presentations from experts and students/young researchers in the field of climate extremes & its challenges in the health sector. The three-day event covered a wide range of topics, including 25 invited talks, 46 poster presentations and 43 oral presentations. It received an overwhelming response from different parts of India, with nearly 400 participants attending the event.

TROPMET is a series of national conferences organized each year by IMS. This year, TROPMET will be held in the city of Bhopal. TROPMET-2022 focuses on weather and climate prediction, including applications in the water and agricultural sectors. The climate varies naturally in space and time. Today's concern is the occurrence of climate changes due to human activities. These changes are manifested in an increase in temperature, extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, heat waves, dust storms, heavy precipitation events etc. These weather events need constant monitoring to reduce their potential impacts on society. Since observation stations are not available at every spatial point of interest, modelling efforts are required to help assess the situation. Also, process studies are essential to understand the phenomena to a greater depth. Keeping these facts in mind, TROPMET 2022 will make efforts to bring together climate scientists, agricultural scientists, local government bodies, academics, policymakers and disasters, and other related experts to discuss and share information for the benefit of the society.
